The Songwriters Hall of Fame (SHOF) has announced the nominees for induction at its 51st Annual Induction & Awards Gala, to be held on June 11, 2020, in New York.
Nominated in the performing songwriting category are Mariah Carey, Gloria Estefan, David Gates, Vince Gill, the Isley Brothers (specifically, the writers Ernie Isley, Marvin Isley, O’Kelly Isley, Ronald Isley, Rudolph Isley and Chris Jasper), Journey (Jonathan Cain, Steve Perry, Neil Schon), the songwriting team of Annie Lennox and David Stewart, Mike Love, Steve Miller, Outkast (André “André 3000” Benjamin and Antwan “Big Boi” Patton), R.E.M. (Bill Berry, Peter Buck, Mike Mills and Michael Stipe), and Patti Smith.
The nominees in the songwriter category are the teams of Lynn Ahrens and Steve Flaherty, Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart, L. Russell Brown an Irwin Levine, Kye Fleming and Dennis Morgan, Chad Hugo and Pharrell Williams (professionally known as The Neptunes), and Sonny Curtis, Jerry Fuller, Tony Macaulay, Bob McDill, Roger Nichols, Rick Nowels, and William “Mickey” Stevenson.
SHOF voting members now have until midnight on Dec. 16 to vote for three nominees in both the performing songwriter and songwriter categories.
Established in 1969, the Songwriters Hall of Fame is dedicated to recognizing the work and lives of those composers and lyricists who create music around the world. To qualify for induction, a songwriter must be a published writer for a minimum of 20 years with a notable catalog of hit songs.
